BLOM URBEX update

2009-12-08

Blom Urbex is a unique database with all the pictures taken over the largest European cities in recent years.

The latest news this year is the possibility to compare pictures from one year to the next, depending on how many times the city has been photographed.

In addition, Blom is currently adding new 3D city models over Europe!  From Norway, you will find 3D models of Trondheim, Oslo, Ski, Stavanger and Bergen, among other cities.

The photo season this year has been very good - in Norway we have been flying Bergen for the third year in a row. Other Norwegian cities that have been flown this year, is Kristiansand, Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg, Ås, Ski, Drammen, Lier and Haugesund.

BLOM GEOMATICS IMPLEMENTS NEW TECHNOLOGY

2009-03-18

Prior to this year's photo season, we have upgraded our two Vexcel UltraCam X-cameras to Vexcel UltraCam Xp-cameras. The new cameras have superior resolution and storage capacity compared to the UltraCam X-cameras.

UltraCam Xp has a geometric resolution of 6.0 µm, while UltraCam X had 7.2 µm. This means that while flying at the same altitude as before, we can now obtain a 20 % better ground resolution (GSD). Alternatively, we can gain the same GSD as before, flying higher and using fewer flight lines. The investment thereby gives us the opportunity for more effective data capture, which in practice can make the difference between a completed and an interrupted photo project.

Our new storage units enable us to store more than 6 600 uncompressed images. This by far exceeds the number of images we have normally been able to capture in a day, meaning that with these storage units we are, to a very lagre extent, eliminating the problem of storage capacity during a photo project.

In connection with the upgrade, we have also started using the new gyro-stabilized mount PAV80 from Leica Geosystems AG. Compared to previous models, this new mount gives better recording conditions through quicker and more precise angle corrections.

In addition to the technical advances, this winter we have made several operational moves in order to better take advantage of our joint resources within Aerial Photography in the Blom group. We trust this will give a positive effect for both our customers and ourselves,

For further information on our new equipment, please feel free to contact

NEW BASE FOR AIRBORNE OPERATIONS AT RAKKESTAD

2008-11-01

Blom Geomatics is happy to announce that our Airborne Operations unit now has relocated from Sandefjord Airport Torp to our brand new hangar at Rakkestad Airport. The new hangar rooms our 4 aircraft with state-of-the-art office facilities.

Rakkestad Airport is idyllically situated in the countryside of Østfold County, a 90 minutes drive south-east of our main office in Oslo.

Now we are located next door to Norrønafly, who is not only responsible for the maintenance of our four aircrafts, but also take care of all necessary repairs, modifications and paint jobs. It is a big advantage knowing that the mechanics at Norrønafly are very familiar with the details and history of all our aircraft, and always do their outmost to provide minimum service time and maximum security.
